AEROBIC: Pure cultures of microorganisms and mixed microorganisms in soil degraded chlorsulfuron(1). The half-lives of chlorsulfuron in two non-sterile soils were 5 days and 15 days at 30°C compared to the half-lives of 21 days and 28 days, respectively, in the sterile soils(1). Microbial breakdown accounted for 79% of the total initial degradation in a silt loam soil (pH 5.9, organic matter 5%), 50% in a sandy loam soil (pH 6.5, organic matter 1%) and 91% in a silt loam soil (pH 8.0, organic matter 5%)(1). On the other hand, microbial breakdown accounted for only 25% of total loss in a silty clay loam soil (pH 5.6, organic matter 2.4%)(2).
